2 min readThe Abu Dhabi Centre for Technical and Vocational Education and Training (ACTVET) has been acknowledged for its Paramedic Virtual Simulation Lab located at the Fatima College of Health Sciences (FCHS), an affiliate of the centre. The lab was selected and highlighted by the UNESCO-UNEVOC International Centre for Technical and Vocational Education and Training to inspire the development of the healthcare sector in other countries.
This acknowledgement underscores ACTVET’s commitment to healthcare education excellence and its compliance with international standards.
Established in 2021, the Paramedic Virtual Simulation Lab at FCHS, is designed to enhance the clinical skills and decision-making abilities of paramedic students through simulated emergency scenarios. It provides hands-on practice, instant feedback, and consistent skill assessment to prepare students for real-life medical emergencies.
To date, the lab has successfully trained 336 students in advanced emergency medical courses, including life support, trauma care, disaster response, medical safety, geriatric care, and critical procedures such as intubation and haemorrhage control.
The simulation lab enhances educational and career opportunities, fostering a skilled and confident paramedic workforce, in line with the UAE’s national goals of enhancing healthcare quality, educational excellence, national preparedness, and public safety.
The simulation lab elevates the quality of paramedic training by providing realistic, hands-on experiences in a controlled environment, which boosts competence, confidence, and critical thinking among students. This in turn, results in high-quality patient care and successful careers in emergency medical services.
This initiative represents an investment in the Technical and Vocational Education and Training sector, encompassing benefits such as reduced training costs, minimised medical errors, improved patient outcomes, and enhanced efficiency for students. It not only reflects ACTVET’s core values of investing in people, but also promotes broader societal benefits, including improved public health and educational advancements, aligning with the UAE’s national vision and contributing to the nation’s overall development objectives.
