Donation will help support mental health efforts in Delta
2 min readThe Harlow and Mary Ann Burrows Foundation has been a generous supporter of the Step Forward Program throughout its years, and have again pledged their support, making a $17,000 donation.
Deltans are familiar with the Step Forward Program, originally set up by Alongside You, a private clinic located in Ladner, in 2015. This is a program that provides subsidized mental health services to qualified clients by qualified mental health professionals.
Since 2015, Alongside You has eased financial barriers in accessing services by providing more than $500,000 in subsidized services in support to their clients and earning community recognition for their invaluable contribution.
The 140 Sports Association was established in 2018 to provide mental training and support for youth, particularly through youth sports programs. This program has run camps and educational sports sessions to support youth and mental health in B.C. schools, post-secondary institutions, community sports groups and many others.
In January 2023, the Step Forward Health Society was formed, and the Step Forward Program was moved into the Society as well as the 140 Sports Program. These combined programs were set to ensure greater accessibility to qualified mental health programs and resources for individuals, couples, and families, and to promote health within schools and youth programs, especially where financial needs prevented access.
In the past year, since the Society revised its mission, more than 100 youth have participated in its sports and other training programs in Delta, and adults have been able to access mental health First Aid training, plus there’s been continued financial support provided to individuals needing mental health supports where no other financial options were possible.
The Harlow and Mary Ann Burrows Foundation has been a generous supporter of the Step Forward Program throughout its years, and have again pledged their support, making a $17,000 donation.
“We are so very grateful to Harlow and Mary Ann and their foundation for their continued support,” said Meg Neufeld, president of the Step Forward Society. “Without consistent donors, our Society could not support the community and we could not do the work that we do.”
