From AI to healthcare: These are the fastest-growing jobs in India for 2026
India’s job market is changing fast, and new career options are emerging for students and young professionals planning for 2026. According to a report by LinkedIn’s ‘Jobs on the Rise 2026’, 25 roles have seen the fastest hiring growth in the country over the past three years, pointing to opportunities across technology, business, sustainability and healthcare.

As per the report many of these roles did not exist a decade ago. Some are driven by artificial intelligence and digital tools, while others reflect demand for business planning, care-focused work and purpose-led careers. For those starting out, the list serves as a guide to where hiring demand is building and which skills employers are looking for.

AI-led roles dominate growth

Artificial intelligence-related jobs feature strongly among the fastest-growing roles. Positions such as Prompt Engineer, AI Engineer, Software Engineer and Manager of AI are seeing increased demand across industries. These roles go beyond coding and combine technical knowledge with problem-solving and strategic thinking.

The report notes that AI is now being used in sectors such as finance, healthcare, education and entertainment. As a result, companies are looking for professionals who can build, manage and improve AI systems. For students outside engineering streams, basic AI understanding is also becoming relevant across many fields.

Business and strategy careers remain in demand

Alongside technology roles, business and strategy positions continue to grow. Jobs such as Strategic Advisor, Director of Business Development, Sales Specialist and Account Manager feature prominently on the list.

These roles focus on planning, market understanding, decision-making and relationship management rather than technical coding skills. As companies expand operations and form partnerships, demand is rising for professionals who can guide growth and manage client relationships. This trend creates opportunities for graduates from commerce, management and liberal arts backgrounds.

Care and sustainability jobs gain traction

As per the report, growth in healthcare, sustainability and care-related roles are also on the rise. Jobs such as Sustainability Manager, Solar Consultant, Behavioural Therapist and Veterinarian are expanding as India invests more in renewable energy, mental health awareness and environmental responsibility. These roles often combine professional skills with social impact, offering career paths linked to long-term national priorities.

Where the jobs are

Major cities such as Bengaluru, Delhi-NCR, Hyderabad and Mumbai remain key hiring hubs. However, according to the report, hybrid and remote work models are becoming more common, especially in technology and consulting. This shift allows candidates from smaller cities to access high-growth roles without relocating.

Preparing for future careers

According to LinkedIn’s report, adaptability matters more than choosing a single career path early. Building a mix of technical knowledge, analytical ability and communication skills can help candidates move across roles as industries evolve. Practical experience through internships, projects and certifications is increasingly valued alongside formal degrees.

As per the report many future-facing jobs are already part of today’s hiring market. For students and early-career professionals, starting skill development now can improve readiness for the roles that are growing fastest in India.
