Fujitsu today announced the launch of a large scale health education initiative for Fujitsu’s approximately 70,000 employees in Japan from January 26, 2024 to encourage employees to take proactive steps to maintain and improve their oral and dental health. Oral and dental health affects overall wellbeing and is an important element in achieving better quality of life. This health education program will promote Fujitsu employees’ understanding of preventive dentistry to manage oral and dental health and will update them about the causes and risks of dental caries and periodontal disease.

The Fujitsu Group considers its people as its most important asset and places a special emphasis on initiatives to maintain and improve its employees’ health and wellbeing. In 2019, projects to promote the prevention of health issues like cancer, headaches, back pain, and bone issues were launched, creating an environment where all employees feel supported and empowered to work positively and healthily, both in mind and body. Ongoing initiatives to promote dental health include regular dental examinations, conducting preventive dentistry seminars for each age group, and taking measures to change the Fujitsu Dental Clinic to a Preventive Dentistry Clinic (1). Implementing health education will build upon these efforts, alongside the use of solutions including Fujitsu’s Preventive Dentistry Cloud Service (2).

Overview of health education program: “Health improvement starts with teeth and mouth”

Under the supervision of the chief of the Fujitsu Dental Clinic, Dr. Yuji Fukui, the program will offer employees knowledge and practical methods to protect their oral and dental health, including modules that emphasize basic oral and dental health awareness, dental care methods, and the importance of receiving professional care at a dental clinic. The program will include messages from Professor Dowen Birkhed, a Swedish dentist who is a world renowned expert in the field of preventive dentistry, which highlight the importance of practicing oral and dental care to further motivate and encourage participants.

Future Plans

Moving forward, Fujitsu will continue to advance employees’ oral and dental health by providing regular dental examinations and analysis of dental-related data to provide health support that encourages self-management. In addition, it will utilize the dental caries susceptibility check function (3) of the Fujitsu Preventive Dentistry Cloud Service, a tool which is used by the Fujitsu Dental Clinic, to support dentists and dental hygienists in educating and influencing patients’ behavior. Fujitsu aims to share the company’s best practices to other dental clinics, companies, government institutions, etc., and to promote oral and dental health towards sustainable improvement of society’s well-being as a whole.
