Canada holds first education draw under Express Entry in more than four months, CRS cut-off score drops

Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has issued more invitations to apply (ITA) through the Express Entry system.

The immigration department issued 2,500 ITAs in a draw for candidates in Express Entry’s education category.

To be considered in this draw, candidates needed to have:

  • A minimum Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score of 462; and
  • Created an Express Entry candidate profile before 4:24 a.m., Universal Coordinated Time (UTC) on July 9, 2025.

Today’s education category draw is only the second in Express Entry’s history. It features a significantly lower CRS score cut-off (from 479 to 462) and a larger draw size (1,000 ITAs to 2,500 ITAs today) than the previous draw, which occurred on May 1.

Today’s Express Entry draw is the fifth of the month and follows a Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) draw on September 15, a 4,500 ITA French-language draw on September 4, and a smaller Canadian Experience Class (CEC) draw on September 3.

Thus far, IRCC has issued 59,797 ITAs through the Express Entry system in 2025.

Express Entry draws this year have primarily focused on PNP draws, with the remainder of Express Entry ITAs dedicated to CEC candidates, candidates with French-language proficiency, and those in the Express Entry priority occupation categories:
